Cameron said he would not redefine marriage

Just three days before the last election, David Cameron said that he was not planning to redefine marriage. It has often been pointed out, quite rightly, that plans to redefine marriage were not part of the Conservative manifesto. Many, like me, will not realise that on the eve of the election, David Cameron gave electors to believe that he would not change the definition of marriage.

Coalition for Marriage has the details.

This is a standard form of political speech, heard in other contexts too. "I have no plans","We are not planning", are phrased in this way so as to be interpreted by the listener as the thing he wishes to hear. But they also mean "We have not yet worked out the detailed plans to put into effect the thing we intend to achieve". And of course the speaker isn't telling a lie; certainly not. Perish the thought.

So does his present position mean that he is

A) An undemocratic Politician,

or

B) that he is a Liar

or
C) That he is a crook?

The manifesto for equality was launched on the same day. So it seems that his intention to introduce same-sex marriage was evident. Can't see much of a story here.

One certainty is that he is desperate. Bear in mind the fact that he did not win the General Election even against the extraordinarily un-charismatic Gordon Brown. He clutches wildly at straws!

Olafur: The document you refer to was only issued three days before the election and merely said the matter would be considered. Cameron's statement was made the same evening effectively saying that consideration did not mean planning. Undoubtedly the present enthusiasm for SSM is as a result of having to do a deal with the Lib Dems who are extreme libertines.

One of the classic 'we have no plans' was the Labour statement during the 2005 General Election, referring to tuition fees. Trust politicians at your peril.

Dear friend,

ROSARY TOMORROW, 5th February, 12 am GMT, FOR THE DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE

Tomorrow (5th of February), the first bill proposing same-sex marriage is going to be heard in British Parliament. I ask you to join me, and many others, in the praying of a rosary tomorrow to ask for Our Lady's intercession in this. We are aiming to pray together at 12 am, noon (GMT) tomorrow. Pray whatever you are able to do - a decade, a Mystery, the full Rosary, even a short prayer to Our Lady -to beg for her help.

It is our hope that if Catholics pray together for this, we can gain Our Lady's intercession in this dark hour.

Please pass the message on any way you can! Email, blog, text, social media. 12 am tomorrow - a worldwide rosary for the defense of marriage.

God Bless.

Maria Kolbe
